Karen started City Wide of Boston with Bob Sommers in 2008. Through the State of Massachusetts’ Supplier Diversity Office (SDO), City Wide of Boston is a certified Woman Owned Business (WBE). Prior to City Wide, Karen spent 12 years in Sales and Sales Management in Boston and New York Radio, working for both American Radio Systems and CBS/Infinity Broadcasting. And then after starting a family, she worked as a consultant to her former Boston radio stations, as well as, clients in sales & sales leadership. In 2002 along with Bob, she co-founded the grass roots, 100% volunteer based charity Smiling Kids Inc. (www.smilingkidsinc.org). The 501(c)3 charity provides birthday presents to children and teens in-need throughout Massachusetts. The organization has provided over 15,000 birthday presents to date. The success and enjoyment of launching and growing the charity ignited the interest to start a business.
